Welcome to Year Three
Happiness Through Learning
Thank you for taking the time to view our new class page. We have been busy planning for a great summer term, with lots of great things to learn about. We are studying vikings this term and are hoping to arrange a trip based on this topic. Our current book is Arthur and the Golden Rope, about a young Icelandic boy who embarks on a new adventure with Norse gods. Click on our newsletter link to find out more information about the fun times ahead.
Keep checking our page for regular updates.
Hello from Miss Richardson, Mr Mapp, Mrs Bennett and all of Year 3!
A huge, warm welcome to our class page!
Thank you for taking the time to look at our work and read all about our learning.
Jorvik Viking Centre
We were very lucky to have the opportunity to visit the beautiful city of York for our Year 3 school trip. We began our day by taking a leisurely walk along the city walls, admiring the views of the Minster as we went. Eventually, we arrived at the Dig Centre where we had lunch and explored the gift shop. With our tummies suitably full and our wallets empty, we headed over to the Jorvik Viking Centre. Here, we were greeted by a Viking lady who informed us that we were stood on the very site where archaeologist had discovered the remains of houses, workshops and backyards of the Viking-age city of Jorvik. Inside the museum (after we got over the smell!) we took a tour around a Viking village and got to handle some real Viking artefacts, including a horse’s foot bone which was once used as a child’s ice-skate. After this we made our way back to the Dig Centre where we took part in a Viking Saga workshop. We learnt about the Viking artform of storytelling and re-enacted a story about the Viking god Thor. The children and staff had a lovely day and we learnt lots about Viking life.
In Science we have been studying rocks and fossils.
We have been looking at Igneous, Metamorphic and Sedimentary rocks and trying to understand how they are all formed. We’ve studied their properties and classified them according to hardness, texture and appearance. We have learnt about permeability and porousness.
In Maths we have been studying units of measure.
On the left you will see our work on measuring weight and mass. We spent some time estimating, comparing, weighing and adding weights in grams and kilograms.
On the right you will see our work on capacity and volume. We again looked at estimating, comparing, measuring and adding liquids using mililitres and litres. Alfie was turned into the mad professor one day to help mix crazy chemicals. We also had a visit from the sorting hat from Hogwarts, which put us into our house groups to make our magic potions.
