Governor Profiles
Caroline Rayner
LA Clerk
I am a mum of 2 daughters: Caitlin (21) and Freya (13) and I live in Yarm, but previously lived for over 10 years in East Cowton, where both my girls attended the local primary school. We also have a dog called Daisy (5) who is a Jackauaua and is very lazy but we are sure she is also part “hooman” as she used to let Freya dress her up in clothes and push her round the street in a pushchair! I live with my long-term partner Steve, originally from Leeds, and we have been together for 22 years.
I work full time for North Yorkshire County Council in Northallerton, as a Leadership Support Officer (PA). I support one of the Directors within Business and Environmental Services. This is a very busy role and can be challenging at times – it certainly keeps me occupied from day to day.
As a family, we enjoy day trips out and love going to Whitby and Saltburn, and head for regular shopping trips to Leeds. Currently we enjoy walks around the area and especially up at the Tees Barrage and around Yarm and Eaglescliffe. I love to read but unfortunately do not have a lot of time for that at the moment!

Mrs Lorna Hazelwood
Co-opted Member of the Governing Body
I’m a busy mum of 3 children: Stanley, Nelly and Olive. I’m married to Jason and we’ve lived in Brompton since 2002. I work part time teaching in a primary school in Ripon.
Stanley and Nelly both attend Brompton Community Primary School and are very proud of their school. I want to help our village school be as good as it can possibly be for all our children and am passionate about inspiring youngsters to have a love of learning.
As a family we love being outdoors; walking, biking and exploring the countryside. My other great passion in life is Art. Drawing, painting and all things crafty make me very happy.
Date of Appointment: November 2017
End of term: December 2025
Mr Simon Keillor
Co-Opted Member of the Governing Body
Our family moved to Brompton in May 2022 and our two girls, Ivy (Y4) and Violet (Y2), started at Brompton Community Primary School that September. The girls were made to feel so welcome and it feels like they’ve always been there. We’ve always been made to feel part of the school which is why I decided to become a Governor.
I work for North Yorkshire Police in the IT department and my wife, Rebekah, is a SEN Teaching Assistant at Alverton Primary School. As a family we love the outdoors, whether it be walking, camping or going to festivals!
I look forward to being part of the governing body and helping the school.
End of term: January 2025
Rachel Clark
Co-Opted Member of the Governing Body
I am a mum of 2, Alice 12 and Toby, 10. Toby attends Brompton school and is in year 5 and Alice attended Brompton School but is now in Secondary School.
I also have 2 step daughters. We live on a farm not far from Northallerton so spend a lot of time outside with animals, 2 cats, 6 dogs, 2 ponies and 13,500 and some beef cows!
I am a self-employed bookkeeper and have varying clients from Charities, Electricians, Farmers and Wedding venues.
If I manage to find any spare time, I enjoy running, paddleboarding and reading.
Date of Appointment: October 2024
Mr Tony Whiteley
Co-opted Member of the Governing Body
I teach in a neighbouring primary school that has worked collaboratively with Brompton Primary School over the last decade through ‘The Beacon Partnership’. Whenever we visit Brompton Primary School, we always receive a warm welcome from the pupils, staff and leaders and events are highly organised and fun. It is obvious why the school has a fantastic reputation in Northallerton. Joining this governing body offered the opportunity to not only share my expertise and experience, but to be a part of a learning community that values academic success, citizenship and character development equally.
My family live a very active lifestyle from walks in the Yorkshire Moors to participating in organised sports. I volunteer as a coach for my son’s under 9s football team and in the summer, I also help Northallerton Cricket Club run its All Stars programme for 5-8 year olds. We are a family who love swimming and visit the leisure centre a handful of times each week.
Date of Appointment: December 2021
End of term: December 2025
Mr Tim Pennett
Chair of the Governing Body
Married to Debbie, who is the School Office Manager, and both our children, Edward and Charlotte, have attended the School. Edward has since moved on to High School, but Charlotte continues to enjoy her learning in Year 3.
The family moved to Brompton in 2019 and we have not looked back since. I trained as an Architect in Glasgow and have been engaged in several sectors from Historic Conservation to Aviation, and Retail to Residential. I current work for the MOD delivering an Infrastructure Optimisation Programme based out of Andover; however, with a broad and varying national portfolio this can include periods of working way from home and the family.
I am keen to offer my skills and experience through my appointment as Chair of the Governors to assist the School, its Staff and more importantly its Pupils at a key and impressionable stage in their lives, to enable future success.
Outside of work, I have a list of never-ending domestic chores; but when time allows, I have an incurable interest in anything powered by steam, a fascination for worldwide Narrow Gauge Railways and their landscapes, and I am the Chair of the West Riding Artillery Trust which supports serving and veteran members of the Royal Artillery in Yorkshire.
The personal relationship between Mr Timothy Pennett and Mrs Deborah Pennett had been disclosed to the Governing Body during the recruitment process.
