In Year 6, we are exploring an exciting range of topics across the curriculum. In History, our focus is on the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, investigating themes such as settlement, trade, and conflict, all linked by the overarching concept of cause and consequence.
In Science, we are studying Living Things and learning about the work of the scientist Carolus Linnaeus.
Our Maths lessons delve into place value and the four operations, alongside our weekly arithmetic sessions to strengthen core skills.
The children also enjoy lessons with Mr Byrne each week for PE and PSHCE.
At home, we encourage pupils to read at least four times per week with their reading books, log onto TT Rockstars to practise times tables, and spend time learning their ten weekly spellings.

We have taken our maths learning outside and used the markings on the playground to help with factors and multiples.
We’ve also adopted ‘talk roles’ to improve our oracy and metacognition in maths.

In science, we have conducted experiments to test whether yeast is a living thing. Unfortunately, not all the balloons inflated but we did get to use a microscope and check out different microorganisms.
We’ve also selected our house captains. Each pair represents one of our four houses: Fountains, Bylands, Jervaulx or Rievaulx. The school was involved in the selecting of these role models – well done to everyone who participated!
